At our February 25, 2026 meeting, the Poplar Grove Community Council heard from representatives of the Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities regarding the proposed 500 South Biofilter Project located at 1020 W. Pierpont Avenue. During that meeting, residents raised a number of questions and concerns related to safety, project siting, and the availability of technical information. In particular, there was discussion around an active GRAMA request submitted by community members and the timing of a proposed public meeting intended to address those concerns. Following that discussion, and in response to concerns about the public process and access to information, the membership of the Community Council voted to send a formal letter to the Department of Public Utilities. The letter requests a pause in construction of the project until the requested materials have been made available for review and a subsequent public meeting can be held to allow for a more informed community discussion and vote. After sending the letter, we received a response from the Department of Public Utilities. In the interest of transparency and keeping our community informed, we are sharing both documents below:
We remain committed to ensuring that residents have access to clear information and meaningful opportunities to engage in decisions that impact our neighborhood. -Daniel Chair, Poplar Grove Community Council
